I would do it all over again. I spent four plus years. Boot Camp, Sonar School, The CGC Spencer, and Base St George. I did work, I did play, I did learn, and I did travel. Did I grow up? A little. Below you will see my ship the Coast Guard Cutter Spencer W-36. The majority of my four plus years were spent aboard this ship. Almost half, at sea. The Spencer served the nation for more than 37 years and when decommissioned in 1974, she was the most decorated cutter in the Coast Guard fleet. Click Picture of Spencer for the Spencer Association web site.
In June I visited with old shipmate/best friend Paul Franklin. We had not seen or heard from each other in 44 years. Pictures 1960 & 2005. Paul has also left us. It was one of the best things in my life when we reunited.
I'm on right at top picture, left on bottom picture To see who was aboard the Spencer around Thanksgiving time in 1961, go to the ROSTER For those who are bored and with little to do, there are a few Coast Guard stories (Center group of STORIES) These were originally placed there for my children, but you may be interested.
