JULY 2014 - JANUARY 2015

UNCLE DON

1-1-2015 There is a sadness and deep void in my life. A few days ago my "Uncle Don" Left us. No Man has meant more to me, or for as long as he has. Not just an uncle. A friend, a mentor, a confidant, a neighbor, a hunting and fishing companion, even a drinking buddy. But, along with that loss, he leaves me with the joys and memories of seventy four years of a special bond that for me, cannot be duplicated. We shared much together. I hurt with my cousins and their family's as their loss must be greater than mine. I know the hurt will go away. Those good memories are too great and exist everywhere, but for now the tears are flowing.

As I sit here in North Carolina, it  is almost 5:00 AM. I am searching for pictures on this old computer to do him justice. So many albums and digitals sitting in New York that are not available. A special one of him and my dad in front of the hearth in my grandparents apartment at Bradford Lord Hospital in Endicott. Him in his late teens with guitar and dad with his banjo. That  in turn brings memories of him at a campfire at the Pond playing and singing his favorite song "Detour" so many years ago. (Another thing we shared, our love for the Pond)

9-16-2014  Late this morning Dara's Uncle Kegham passed away. He was first and foremost a family man. In early years his passion as well as occupation was flying. He was also a devout soccer fan. His knowledge of national and world affairs both past and present never ceased to amaze me. He was always kind and gentle. I will miss him.

7-12-2014  ONCE AGAIN I GOOFED. When I returned my main computer home to NY, I forgot to keep a copy of my Web. This morning I managed to figure out how to copy it off of my domain. My new Aortic Valve is doing well and so am I. Much has happened in these last few months and time allowing, tomorrow, I will try and catch up.

Although we came to Winston Salem for health reasons, we had some other good happenings. One was Jess managed a scholarship to Wake Forest University for her Masters Degree. Below you see the WF Chapel and Reynolda Hall.

On Easter weekend we lost my brother Roger. To me he will always be "Scotty". It was shortly after my surgery, but my doctors allowed me to fly to Binghamton. Not just a brother, but a friend and person I admired and respected as much as anyone. Tears still gather in my eyes.

The last picture I have of him is below taken last year. (on far left) The first is on the right.

Before I return to Winston Salem, Hal and I take a drive to check on home. Hal inspects the stakes from the new water system being installed.
