My First

Not far from the public beach at the end of Rt. 15 was a large building I had noticed a few times but never paid any real attention. While swimming at that beach one afternoon I bumped into a girl who was cute but had an old drab bathing suit and real short dark hair. I could tell she was different, but not why. She told me that she stayed in that large building which was being used as a temporary camp for “Wayward” girls. She was not supposed to talk with anyone while at the beach or she would not be allowed to stay. She was open to seeing me again and asked if I could meet her at the bridge after dark?  I said yes. I didn’t know what to expect.

She was late. It was after 11:00 when she appeared out of nowhere. She insisted we go where there were few people. She was very pleased when I produced the boat from the creek beneath the bridge. I rowed a ways and then started the engine and navigated the creek in the moonlight. It was a typical warm and pleasant evening. The mosquitoes were bad in the creek and I asked if she would like to go to the boater’s beach. She was elated. We went to the boater’s beach and I started a fire. We talked about little of nothing for a long time. She said this was one of the few happy times in her life. She did not elaborate.  I had told her about the girls we had been caught in the storm with. She wanted to see the cottage where we stayed. This time there was no sheet. I lost my innocence. Before daylight I returned her to the bridge. I went to the public beach every day for a week. I never saw her again. When I finally managed the courage to enquire about her. No one at that building knew anything.

I hope things worked out as well for her as they did for me.
